C.E.I.P. “El Encinar” Torrelodones, is a public centre for Primary Education (nursery, infant and junior), and is under the control of the Education Authority of the Community of Madrid.
The school was opened for the 2000/2001 school year, and is one of three public primary schools in Torrelodones.
The teaching staff is made up of thirty teachers who teach in two levels: Infant Education (3 to 5 years) and Primary Education (6 to 11 years). There are 19 classrooms: 6 infant and 13 primary, and class size averages 25 pupils.
For the 2004/2005 academic year the school was chosen as one of the preferred centres for the integration of students with motor deficiencies.
As of the 2005/2006 academic year the school elected to join the Community of Madrid’s “Bilingual Program”. This project begins in the first year of Primary Education, and provides for teaching in English. The pupils receive daily classes in English, Spanish and Mathematics, have class room assistants that are native speakers and can exchange all types of experiences with the children of a British school twinned with our centre.
Since the 2003/2004 academic year a program has been developed for the “Immersion in Child Education”. This project, supported by the Community of Madrid, aims to extend English instruction to other areas in the third primary level (10 and 11 year olds).
