Himno
Si tu quieres conocernos, te invitamos a venir.
Te abriremos nuestros brazos, cantaremos para tí.
La encina nos infunde firmeza y lealtad,
inspira confianza, invita a la amistad

PROYECTO CORO 2007/2008

Hoyo, my village, has plenty of countryside. In Hoyo you can find "La Mira", the highest point of the place. It is located near the Picazo, another mountain that has two peaks (one higher than the other). There are also some beautiful little falls. You can get there by crossing a huge neighbourhood called "La Berzosa". In this village, there is also a park called "La Cabilda", which is one of the most well-known parks in the area. In this park we can find a great variety of granite, evergreen oaks (encinas), cork oaks (alcornoques) and many ot the things. From the cork oak it is obtained cork (corcho). Moreover, cork oaks are empty inside such that squirrels and other animals can find a place to live in there. In "La Cabilda" there is a cave as well. It seems to have been built by men, however, everything here is a marvel of nature.

My village´s name is Hoyo de Manzanares. It is located in the Manzanares high basin (Cuenca Alta del Manzanares). The school is located at the end of the village. We have an advantage with respect to the rest of schools, this is we have a park named "La Cabilda". This park allows us to have a place to perform many school activities.

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Itziar Rodríguez Coca. (ANTIGUA ALUMNA DE NUESTRO COLEGIO)

This history begins before our parents were born, when the school was not where it is now, when it was not even half of what it is now. This history begins in the year 1939…

In the years 1939 and 1940 the school was in the main square. There was a single classroom just for boys and their teacher. The girls were in a rented place with another teacher, who was a wife. As they did not have any toilets, the children had to go to make their necessities to the STABLES.

During the very cold winter , children used to go to the mountain to gather firewood for the class chimney. This took place every Thursday in the afternoon ,when there was not any class. Those that were in the last banks of the classroom felt their feet, and body in general, as cold as ice.

The tables in the classroom had a hole in the middle where an inkpot was placed to write. There was a single encyclopedia in the whole school. In the month of May children had to go to the church to pray the rosary.

Years later, in the year 1958, the school was located in which it is today “Cervantes square”. It was formed by two buildings: one was called "Scholar Group Carlos Ruiz" and the other had two classrooms and the teacher house.

In this school there were six teachers for nine different courses:

There was a kindergarden whose teacher was Doña Lupe.

There was another class for the first course. Its tutor and only professor, who used to give all the classes, was Doña Tomasa. She was replaced for Dña. Tomasa later.

Soon, there was another class for the second and the third course . These classes were given by Don Mariano.

Later there was the fourth and fifth course whose tutor was Don Fernando, a professor who was very different from those of nowadays. Later another tutor came to replace him, on the contrary, he was very nice. His name was Don José María.

And finally the sixth, seventh and eigth courses. Sixth and eigth were given by Don Jose María who used to teach maths and natural sciences. The seventh course was given by Doña Mercedes who taught social sciences and language. They used to change the classes after one day.

The life in this school was very different from that we know, for example:

In the class of Doña Lupe there was a small room where the coal for the stoves was kept. It was a dirty and dark room where more than once a substitute of Doña Lupe locked up to the children as punishment.

In the classes there was very few material and the children had to buy it on their own from infantile to eighth course.

The school was not a closed site, but a great extension where the students could play soccer . They used to play in the middle of the puddles, which were frozen in the Winter.

There was also a zone with many rocks where children played a lot. In this place there were many “cardos borriqueros”(plants which could hurt you with their thorns).Birds came to eat the seeds of these plants.

There was no dining room and the students had to go to have lunch to their homes .Don Jose Maria brought an infiernillo and the food he wanted to eat and he prepared it in the school.

Meanwhile the old building, which is the current school, was an antitubercular hospital where they brought the patients after the Civil War. Don Francisco Borondo was in charge of transforming the building into a school. At the beginning it was used as Summer residence for children who alternated every fifteen days. Later it became a boarding school directed by nuns.

Every Sunday in that school, there were films and there all the children of the town could go.

In 1.978, the school of the town was not used any more and the old building of the present school begun to be used.

coleAround the year 1.990 buildings of the old school started to have another utility: the "Scholar Group Carlos Ruiz", is the present municipal clinic; the other building was destroyed to build the Cervantes Square, which was finished in the year 1.992.

From 1,978 to the present time, the school has been growing and has the following buildings:

cole1Kindergarden building: for the children who are from three to five years old.. –

Primary: for the courses from first to sixth.               Gym: where sports take place.

Old Building: It is used like Kindergarden and Primary dining room . Also for the out-of-school activities, road education and the days without school.

cole2Secondary building : it is the building that we have next to our school and it is used for the Secondary Education.

In parking that the professors have, formerly there were quarries; where we have now the gym there was a swimming pool that was used in the summer residence

Below our school, a small river it crosses which you can see on the surface in the Cabilda park. We have also an orchard where before there was a small house.

We are vary lucky and we think that our school is in a privileged location because we are very close to the countryside, next to the Cabilda park. Hopefully it will be like this for a long time.

And thus, we are going to finish our visit to the history of our school.

WE HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED IT!
