PARENTS ASSOCIATION

RELATIONS CENTRE – PARENTS OF THE STUDENTS

    According to what we were being told, parents that aren’t part of the Parents Association (A.M.P.A.), at this time we are focusing on the Parents Association so that we can become more familiar with this organization and its function.  We were able to speak with various members of the association, including the president, for this very purpose.

    The Parents Association of Leon Felipe Public Elementary School is made up of 9 members, who are organized in the following manner:

-         President

-         Vice-President

-         Secretary

-         Treasurer

-         Other members

    There is also a co-ordinator who directs the organization who, in this case, is a member of our staff. 

    However, despite the organization of the group, it’s important to note that all members hold the same level of importance within the group.  It could be said that the organization of the group functions more as a bureaucratic formality rather than a reality. 

    Some organization members are usually in the centre every afternoon from 16:00 to18:00 to collect payments, to give information and to attend other parents, etc. The members tend to meet only when it is necessary, that is to say, to make important decisions, to sign agreements and so on. These types of meetings are usually held at the beginning of the semester and the evenings before Christmas celebrations in order to prepare certain activites.

    The current extracurricular activities being carried out are dance, karate, gym-jazz, “early risers” with breakfast service, football and tutoring.  All of these activities have a lot of student participation and are offered at an affordable price.  At the beginning of the semester, the opportunity exists to increase the number of activities.

    However, the high costs of these activities along with the low turn out by students tend to make it difficult to come to a positive conclusion.

    Hardly get involved in the aforementioned activities but do use the association to make complaints and almost never to help out. 

The relationship with the School Council is very good and they presently have three members residing on both the School Council and the Parents Association.

   Finally, I would like to comment that all of the members of the Parents Association are women and that their relationship with the staff is limited to their duties as mothers and not to their work as members of the Parents Association (A.M.P.A.)

    It is important to highlight the good environment that prevailed while we were speaking with the members, the common predisposition of the members to collaborate and the mutual understanding that exists in the group.
