2009 Global Classrooms Conference in New York

This year, as in the two previous years, IES Ciudad de Jaén has participated in the Global Classrooms Conference, a program in which students simulate the function of the United Nations by discussing, debating, and creating resolutions addressing some of the world’s most serious problems. After the Madrid Conference, one student from each of the ten bilingual schools in Madrid is chosen to participate in the conference in New York City.  This year Alex Robert Azoitei was chosen from Ciudad de Jaén and in May, along with nine other students, flew to New York for the conference. In addition to debating and writing resolutions at the United Nations building, not to mention seeing UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speak, the students also got to experience New York—visiting iconic places like Central Park, Times Square, Grand Central Station, and the Empire State Building. The Students also had the opportunity to visit an American high school, one located on the 12th—14th floors of a building in Manhattan.
