CENTRO DE EDUCACIÓN SECUNDARIA, BACHILLERATO Y FORMACIÓN PROFESIONAL COFINANCIADO POR EL FONDO SOCIAL EUROPEO.

I.E.S. MIGUEL DELIBES

Bienvenidos a la página web de nuestro Instituto.

Students.

Here we give information to our students about complementary studies like languages or music, several places where they can get help for their everyday tasks etc. Besides, we give information about youth asociations or institutions that may be interesting for them.

MEDIATORS:

We started last year this project. It was proposed to all students of all levels. We could form a group of about six people. This first team was trained by the intercultural mediators of the District during the last school year in several sessions (There is a sort of joint venture of the City Hall and the Autonomous University of Madrid to provide the districts with a heavy population of foreigners of several intercultural mediators, in our district we have two professional mediators, from Colombian and Rumanian origins).

Now this team is fully operative and working. We have another team formed recently getting trained and observing the work of their more veteran mates.

They work in pairs, trying to help theirs mates finding out workable solutions to their conflicts. In this way we prevent sanctions. Besides, the procedure is utterly educative for all, for the students themselves in conflict, for the mediators, and even for us, teachers.

New assignments for our mediators:

Welcome committee:

Our mediators have a new task: “Forming the welcome committee”.

We have every year certain amount of new students that come along the year, sometimes because they have changed the residence and sometimes because they arrive from abroad, mostly Latin America or Eastern Europe.

When a new student comes, two members of our team welcome him showing the school, explaining the functioning and offering help if needed any moment. They become somewhat our public relations.

Diagnosis of our living together:

Our mediators have elaborated a questionnaire ad hoc and they have applied it in six classes of different levels. The aim is to know the perception of the pupils about the everyday life in the school, our living together, conflicts and an assessment of the mediation service.

Spreading in the district:

The mediators have visited the Social Services of our district and have written an article in the district magazine.

They will visit soon another secondary school of the neighbourhood (I.E.S. Salvador Dalí) in order to explain the experience.

Next course we want two students per class to watch the class climate. In meetings with the Studies Manager and collaborating with the tutors they will try to improve our prevention of conflicts.

STUDENTS TUTORS:

This year we proposed to the students of the highest level to volunteer becoming tutors of their youngest school mates. We had a splendid response from the students. We had to draw lots for the four places we could offer. They work in pairs with two groups of twelve pupils every Tuesday and Thursday one hour and a half. They help their younger mates in their school tasks, especially in Maths and Spanish language.

Project “Conecta joven”.

Course of digital literacy for adults.

What does “conecta joven” mean?

Translation: “Connect young man”. It is a learning – service project shared by an NGO net which enhances youth involvement in their community through formative actions headed to basic digital knowledge.

A set of our students are going to be trained as computing teachers. The future pupils will be the parents of our own students interested in becoming Pc users, including in this tuition the usual user programs and the Internet.

Our aims:

  • Reinforcing links between school and families.
  • Making pupils aware of their own capacities. They will see they are able to be experts en several areas of knowledge.
  • Reinforcing solidarity and collaboration.

Procedure:

  • Training stage: our students have 20 hours of training in communication skills, agreements about program, revising computing contents, etc.
  • Working stage: giving the course of digital literacy:
    • Two evenings per week.
    • 2 groups, 4 hours per week

Each group works 16 hours in the course. The group is formed by 16 persons and is attended by 4 student – teachers. We have 11 students (16-17 years old) involved in this program.
